Focus on the environment and sustainability
We firmly believe in the bright future of rail freight. We know that rail transport can reduce carbon footprints and bring other environmental benefits. It can also reduce costs and maintain satisfying operating margins. That is why we so keenly communicate our ideas and enter collaborations based on these.
Everything we do has an impact on the environment. The world is looking for ways to reduce pollution, supply clean water, consume less energy and find renewable sources of energy. Our main contribution to a cleaner global environment stems from the environmental focus of our services and products.
In a world where transport and environmental consciousness are becoming increasingly important issues, we are helping to develop the only ‘green’ land-transport option – railways. For the environment and the climate, railways are clearly the best form of transport and have a great future ahead of them.
Given the environmental benefits, virtually everyone now supports the idea of shifting long-distance road transport to rail. However, rail solutions must also be commercially competitive. We sharpen commercial competitiveness by providing total logistics solutions. Our close collaboration with SweMaint (a member of our corporate group) is one element in this. We design, maintain and sustain the wagon solutions that give you a competitive edge.
Initiatives to benefit the environment and promote sustainability are inherent parts of our operations. They are designed to ensure a bright future for everyone.
Our environmental policy
Kockums Industrier AB’s operations shall:
- Be carried out with the least possible negative impact on the environment.
- Comply with all the relevant legislation, decrees and regulations.
- Become, through constant improvement, increasingly efficient and even more environment-friendly.
The company has an impact on the environment through:
- Energy consumption.
- Freight transport and staff travel.
- Hazardous waste.
- Consumption of chemical products.
Travelling at speeds of 160 km/h makes clear technical demands on the chassis design, wheel suspension and the wagon’s shock absorption but these considerations are also very important from an environmental perspective. Kockums Industrier’s HSC wagon has an upper noise level of 76 dB – below the 82 dB limit and the general freight wagon average of 79–81 dB. This makes a strong argument for the rail transport of postal cargoes through densely populated areas even at night.
